A national party has a nationwide presence as compared to a regional party that is restricted to only a particular state or region. 

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on April 10, 2023, removed three former national parties - the Trinamool Congress (TMC), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and the Communist Party of India (CPI), from the list of recognised national party list. 

EC recognised Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a national party.
