In the first general election held in 1951-1952, Lok Sabha had 489 seats.

Use of First EVM

First Electronic Voting Machine was used in 1982 Kerala by-election for the North Paravur legislative assembly constituency.

18 Was Not Always 'Legal Age'

Article 326 of Indian constitution was amended in 1988, following which the legal age was decreased from 21 to 18.

'None of the Above' Option

In 2013, the EVMs in five states, namely Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh introduced None of the Above (NOTA) option for the first time. This empowered Indian voter to officially register a vote of rejection for the first time.

According to Election Commission of India, there are 96.8 Crore eligible voters in 2024 polls, the biggest ever in the world.
