With Aam Aadmi Party founder and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal out on bail, the AAP would face a real national test with stakes in multiple states.
Punjab sends 13 Members of Parliament to Lok Sabha. Aam Aadmi Party is in power in the state with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at helm.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann claims that his party will sweep the state. But the party faces tough contest in Bathinda, Amritsar and Firozpur. Besides, the fact that it's in alliance with Congress party in Delhi and not in Punjab, may not seat well. However, the party will now utilise Kejriwal in the state to set the political arithmetic right.
The ruling BJP has swept all seven Lok Sabha seats in New Delhi in 2014 and 2019. AAP is in power in the capital since 2013. With Kejriwal free to campaign for his party, the road to Lok Sabha for the BJP candidates won't be as easy as it was previously.
The Delhi chief minister would embark on campaign for the larger Opposition bloc apart from Delhi and Punjab, AAP officials have said. While that may add ammunition to the Opposition's plan to challenge PM Modi's popularity, the larger challenge for the Opposition, well, is PM Modi's popularity itself.
