Universal Adult Franchise is guaranteed to every Indian citizen above the age of 18 years. The country is currently conducting Lok Sabha elections. Following is a five-step guide for first-time voters to vote in the general elections.

1. Locate your Polling Booth

Make sure you are aware of your polling booth. You can check this on the Election Commission website by entering the 10 digit unique number on your Voter ID card

2. Verification

After reaching the booth, a government official will verify your name in the list and request your ID proof.

3. Voting and Inking

An indigo coloured ink would be marked on your index finger indicating that you have taken part in the voting process. You will also receive an acknowledgement slip.

4. Casting your Vote

After showing your slip and inked finger, you will be allowed to enter the booth. Now, you can vote for the candidate that you deem fit, and a beep sound from the EVM will confirm your vote.

5. Verification

A slip will appear on the VVPAT machine highlighting the choice you have made.
