During MS Dhoni's illustrious career, he has had fair shares of ups and downs, namely with the media writing about his alleged rift with teammates such as Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Gautam Gambhir. Over the years, some of them have brushed aside all such claims whereas a few labelled them as difference of opinion.
Alleged Rift With Teammates
Over the years, Yograj Singh -- Yuvraj's father -- has lashed out at Dhoni and alleged that he was insecure of his son's success, dropped many seniors unfairly and is a credit-stealer. Further, he accused Dhoni of deliberately playing slowly during India's CWC '19 SF loss vs NZ to prevent Virat Kohli from becoming a WC-winning captain.
MSD, selfish and insecure?
Dhoni's name was unfortunately linked with IPL's biggest scandal in 2013 after CSK and RR's involvement emerged. Dhoni was questioned for allegations to have fixed some games and been in touch with a bookie. However, only CSK owner N Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappa was the main culprit from the Yellow Army.
IPL 2013 Spot-fixing Scandal
Dhoni was sporting wicketkeeping gloves with what looked like a military insignia. ICC requested for its removal, citing rules that forbid display of messages "which relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes". Eventually, the sign remained as BCCI got approval from ICC.
CWC 2019 Gloves Row
During RR vs CSK game in IPL 2019, in Jaipur, Dhoni lost his cool in his side's 152-run chase. With 8 needed off 3, a Ben Stokes-delivery seemed above waist-height. While the main umpire raised his arm, it was overruled by square leg umpire. This led to Dhoni's on-field storming onto the ground for an argument. Eventually, the no-ball call went against CSK but they won the game.
