The Airbus A350 is said to be the quietest among twin-aisle aircraft featuring a carbon fibre fuselage and wings, and new fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, which require 25 per cent less fuel resulting in less carbon dioxide emissions.
Designed by Collins Aerospace, the aircraft will have 316 seats in a three-class cabin configuration: 28 private Business Class suites with full-flat beds, 24 Premium Economy with extra legroom and 264 spacious Economy Class seats.
The Business Class Cabin will be in a 1-2-1 configuration and fully reclining seats. It will also be fitted with a 21-inch HD touchscreen for in-flight entertainment (IFE), universal A/C and USB-A power outlets. The middle seats will have a sliding door for privacy.
In addition to extra legroom with 38 inches of seat pitch, this part of the aircraft will have 24 seats in a 2-4-2 configuration. It will also have a 13.3-inch HD touchscreen, and universal AC and USB-A power outlets.
The Economy will have 264 seats in a standard 3-3-3 configuration and have smaller 12-inch touchscreens for in-flight entertainment.
The A350 which has been touted as a “game-changer” for Air India, by its CEO Campbell Wilson enters commercial service on January 22. It will initially operate on domestic routes between major Indian cities and will later be deployed on international routes.
