Weight Gain

Sudden weight gain is one of the most reliable indicators of thyroid dysfunction. A sluggish thyroid gland decreases the body’s ability to metabolise fat, leading to weight gain.

High Cholesterol Levels

Women with unbalanced thyroid hormone levels generally have elevated cholesterol. Because thyroid hormones regulate metabolism, an imbalance can have a negative impact on heart health by raising cholesterol levels.

Bloating

An inactive thyroid gland is responsible for storing fluid in the body, which causes bloating. Fluid retention is a clear indicator of thyroid dysfunction.

Hair Loss

Acute thyroid problems, whether hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, can cause hair loss of varied degrees. This is not a sign that will appear in the early stages, but long-term and untreated thyroid disorders can cause severe hair loss.

Palpitations

Racing heartbeats or palpitations are a sign of an unbalanced thyroid gland. This is because high thyroid hormones force the body to go into overdrive, straining the heart and increasing the number of heartbeats.

Disturbed Sleep Patterns

As the thyroid gland regulates brain activity and metabolism, thyroid hormone imbalances cause significant changes in sleep patterns. Insomnia or excessive fatigue even after a good night’s sleep can be a cause of concern.
