In a saucepan, add 1 and 1/3 cup granulated sugar, 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/3 cup cornstarch, and a pinch of salt.
Mix the ingredients well.
Add 4 and 1/2 cups cold milk. Whisk until combined.
Increase the heat to medium and stir constantly.
Once the mixture starts boiling and thickens, remove it from the heat.
Add 3 tablespoons unsalted butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Let it cool and stir occasionally. Serve chilled.
