Tornadoes ripped through several Iowa towns on Thursday afternoon (July 19), destroying buildings and toppling trees, according to local media.A curfew was in place for 9 p.m. local time as emergency crews and volunteers scrambled to clean up the damage.

Marshalltown, where 9,800 people were left without power, appeared to be the hardest hit, they said.

There were no immediate reports of serious injuries, Brian Batterson, captain of the Marshalltown Police Department, told reporters.

In Bondurant, strong winds ripped roofs off several houses and buildings and left more than a thousand residents without power, local media said.
