Former President Donald Trump questioned President Joe Biden's mental capacity during a speech at the Turning Point Action conference in Detroit on Saturday night, implying that Biden ought to take a cognitive test.

However, in the next sentence, Trump mispronounced the name of the doctor who gave him the test while he was president.

"He doesn't even know what the word 'inflation' means. I think he should take a cognitive test like I did," Trump said of Biden.

Later he said, "Doc Ronny Johnson. Does everyone know Ronny Johnson, a congressman from Texas? He was the White House doctor, and he said I was the healthiest president, he feels, in history, so I liked him very much indeed immediately."

It is not Ronny Johnson who is the doctor to whom Trump was alluding, but rather Ronny Jackson. Jackson is currently a Republican congressman from Texas and one of Trump's most outspoken supporters on Capitol Hill. He was the White House physician for part of Trump's presidency.

The main focus of Trump's campaign has been whether or not 81-year-old Joe Biden qualifies for a second term. Biden turned 78 on Friday but his Saturday night faux pas was swiftly criticised, and minutes after the Biden team released a video of the incident.

The Biden-Harris HQ X page responded by reposting Trump's speech with the caption, "Trump: I think Biden should take a cognitive test. My doctor Ronny Johnson. Ronny Johnson, do you know him?"

Jackson claims that Trump requested to take the cognitive test in 2018. The purpose of the test called the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, is to identify moderate cognitive impairment and memory loss in their early stages.

It comprises exercises like recalling a list of spoken words, identifying as many words that start with a particular letter as you can in a minute, precisely drawing a cube, and giving specific examples of how two objects, like a train and a bicycle, are similar.
