US President Donald Trump targeted his former aide and "Apprentice" reality star Omarosa Manigault-Newman on Monday, calling her "vicious" and a "lowlife".

"Wacky Omarosa, who got fired 3 times on the Apprentice, now got fired for the last time. She never made it, never will," Trump wrote in a series of tweets.

His comments followed the public release of taped conversations between Manigault-Newman and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly that document her dismissal from the White House staff.

Omarosa left the White House in December and her television interview coincided with the release of a book, "Unhinged: An Insider Account of the Trump White House," detailing her time there.

Earlier, Manigault-Newman released a recording of a phone conversation with Trump that purportedly took place after she was fired by Kelly.

In the recording, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly can be heard talking to Omarosa in the Situation Room. "We want to talk to you about leaving the White House," Kelly said, as he cited integrity issues for her leaving. "It's important to understand that if we make this a friendly departure ... you can go on without any type of difficulty in the future relative to your reputation."

Manigault was previously best-known for repeatedly being fired on the NBC's "The Apprentice" and was one of Trump's more visible African-American supporters during his campaign.
