After creating headlines with its Honduran girl cover, Time magazine unveiled a new cover for its latest July 30 edition.

The cover has a morphed photo of US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin with a title "the summit crisis" written and bottom left side of the page referring to the recent Helsinki summit on July 16.

The image is made by visual artist Nancy Burson, Time informed on its website.

The statement released by Time on its site reads, the image is "meant to represent this particular moment in US foreign policy, following the pair’s recent meeting."

The US magazine also posted a video on its Twitter showing Donald Trump's image morphing into Putin's image.

Trump has been under massive criticism in Washington for failing to publicly confront Putin over the election interference at the press conference that followed their closed-door Helsinki talks.

Trump has also appeared on several occasions to question the US intelligence findings that Russia interfered in the 2016 vote in a bid to undermine Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

Trump had also defended his efforts to build a relationship with  Putin in an interview broadcast on Friday, saying they got along well but their conversations were "not always conciliatory."

On Thursday, he had invited Putin to Washington for a second meeting in the fall.
