US President Donald Trump said Thursday that the US economy would crash if he were impeached. Trump was speaking to Fox News.
"I will tell you what, if I ever got impeached, I think the market would crash. I think everybody would be very poor, because without this thinking, you would see -- you would see numbers that you wouldn't believe in reverse," Trump told the programme Fox and Friends.
Trump then launched into a rambling statement about job creation and economic progress. He added that Americans would be worse off today if Hillary Clinton had won the 2016 election.
"I don't know how you can impeach somebody who has done a great job," Trump said.
Trump's legal woes have mounted after his former lawyer and "fix it man" Michael Cohen said in court Tuesday that he had paid hush money to women who had claimed to have had sex with Trump. Cohen said he had done so on Trump's orders.
Cohen pleaded guilty to breaking campaign finance laws and other charges.
Within an hour of that development, Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort was found guilty of tax and bank fraud.
Commentators have described Tuesday as the worst day of Trump's presidency. And talk of his impeachment has only got louder since then.
