Delta Air Lines has launched a full investigation after two of its workers were reported killed at its facility at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The US airline said another worker was injured in the incident at the maintenance facility.
News agency AP reported that the two men died after a tyre explosion, which occurred as they were removing it from a plane. Of the two men, one was a Delta employee and the other was a contract worker.
Several fire engines and police units were rushed to the facility near the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport shortly after 5 am local time, reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Delta, in a statement, said it was “heartbroken” after the incident.

“The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of two team members and the injury of another following an incident this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility,” Delta said in a statement. “We have extended our full support to family members and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time,” it added.
Atlanta Mayor, Andre Dickens, said his thoughts were with those who were injured.

"I offer my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased Delta employees. My thoughts are also with those who were injured, and I hope for their swift and full recovery,” the mayor stated.
Reuters reported that the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers was calling for a full investigation into the incident.
