India’s public sector banks are experiencing their lowest workforce numbers in 13 years, according to new data from the Reserve Bank of India. Back in 2011, these banks employed over 755,000 people, and by the end of 2024, the number had only slightly increased. This sluggish growth is linked to the ongoing mergers among banks, which have slowed down the opening of new branches.
