A YouTuber named Norme, from Australia, recently took on the challenge of creating a new world record by choosing not to sleep for 12 days to surpass the longest time a person has stayed awake. The YouTuber decided to do this challenge on a live stream, leaving many viewers concerned about his health.
Throughout the stream, his brother was seen assisting Norme in staying awake by using various tricks like splashing water or distracting him through video games, whenever Norme felt extremely sleepy. Viewers got worried when the streamer started losing consciousness, became incoherent, and was experiencing hallucinations.
Many viewers felt the stunt had gone too far as it was impacting Norme’s health. His health started deteriorating on the livestream prompting several viewers to comment and urge him to end the challenge. Some fans even tried to find the YouTubers' location to send medical professionals.

It is important to mention, that while Norme may be inching closer to the world record, the challenge is not being monitored by the Guinness World Records. The last person to achieve such a feat was Randy Gardner and his pal Bruce McAllister because they had to figure out what happens to the human brain if we don’t sleep.
The duo was doing so for a science fair project, and while performing this, Gardner happened to make the world record. After this, he slept for fourteen hours before waking up naturally.
Gardener told NPR, "I slept just over 14 hours. I remember when I woke up, I was groggy, but not any groggier than a normal person." He also admitted that because of this he had to suffer from unbearable insomnia for decades. "I was awful to be around. Everything upset me. It was like a continuation of what I did 50 years ago," he added.
The teen managed to stay up for 264 hours before being taken to the Naval hospital.
