Kolkata rape-murder case, the prime suspect Roy

A dramatic video that captured the Kolkata Police ASI Anup Datta, a close companion of Kolkata rape-murder case main accused Sanjay Roy, sprinting towards the special crime branch to avoid being questioned and filmed, is going viral on the internet.

The reporter chased ASI Dutta and continued asking him about how long had he known the accused Roy, but the cop chose not to answer and kept running.

Kolkata Police ASI Anup Datta was captured in the video running to avoid any media interaction. It is said that on the night of the murder, he received a call from Roy, who is also believed to be his close associate.

Roy has been accused of homicide and raping the 31-year-old second-year trainee doctor. He was taken into custody after the victim’s body was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The investigation revealed that Roy was intoxicated before committing the crime, as per the report.

In the latest update of the doctor’s rape and murder case, the Supreme Court has asked to remove all references to the name of the murder and rape victim, as well as the videos and photos depicting her on social media and electronic media.

CJI DY Chandrachud said revealing the identity of the rape victim would be a violation of her dignity.

Considering the plea against the disclosure of the identity of the rape victim, the Chief Justice of India said, “It appears that pictures and videos of the deceased’s body have been circulated on social media.”

"This violates the Nipun Saxena decision, which directed that the identity of the rape victim cannot be revealed. We direct that all references to the names of the deceased and photographs and video clippings of the deceased be immediately removed from all social media platforms,” the Supreme Court said.

Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the body of the 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was found, is now under investigation by Kolkata Police on corruption complaints.
