Indira Gandhi International Airport(IGI) of Delhi is all set to open its new Terminal 1 on 17 August. The operations at IGI’s Terminal 1 were suspended due to the canopy collapse incident that led to the death of one person. Delhi International Airport Limited(DIAL)  confirmed in a press release that the new IGI Terminal 1 would be operational again, with SpiceJet and IndiGo airlines shifting their flights to Terminal One.

Delhi Airport posted on X, that a new experience is waiting and the new Terminal 1 is ready for the operations. They also mentioned that with the state-of-the-art facilities and enhanced passenger convenience, new Terminal 1 is ready to welcome travellers.

The DIAL press release on 14 August said, “As per the plan, SpiceJet would shift their 13 flights to Terminal 1 from August 17 and subsequently IndiGo would move back their 34 flights from T2 and T3 to T1, from September 2.”  According to the press release, the new terminal was developed under the Phase 3A expansion project by DIAL.

DIAL has made several additions to Terminal 1 for a better passenger experience. There are dedicated entry gates for both flights, to avoid chaos at the airport. All the passengers flying with IndiGo will enter through Gate 5 and 6 on the first floor, while passengers flying with SpiceJet will enter through Gate A on the ground floor. All the arrivals at the airport will also take place at the dedicated arrival areas on the ground floor.  

As per the release, DIAL has installed proper signage at strategic locations and on-road markings to help people reach their specific departure points. Additionally, guards from the security firm RAXA will also help people reach their appropriate departure points. The release also added that upon arrival, passengers will take the same route to exit the terminal.

DIAL has taken several other measures to enhance the experience, such as Queue-Buster: a Mobile Check-in service at the new terminal 1. The service is designed to avoid long queues at the check-in counters and to help the passengers have a smooth check-in and an enhanced experience at the new terminal.
