Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020 is scheduled to be held in Japan's capital between August 24 and September 5, 2021. The Paralympic Games, featuring athletes with an impairment, take place shortly after Summer Games in the same host city.

The Tokyo Paralympics opened after a year-long Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic delay and just like the Olympics, the event will be marked by strict virus rules, with almost all spectators banned and tough restrictions on athletes and other participants.

The Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020 will be an event of many firsts, with the most striking being a record number of female athletes who will be competing.

According to the IPC Qualification Criteria, at least 40.5 per cent of all the athletes will be women. This equates to 1,782 athletes, an increase in the 1,671 women who competed at Rio Games 2016 (38.6 per cent).

Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games mascot has been named SOMEITY, which is quite a cool character with mighty powers and cherry blossom tactile sensors. SOMEITY can use the sensors on the sides of its head for telepathic powers, fly using its Ichimatsu-pattern cape and even move objects without touching them.

WION will bring you all the latest updates with extensive coverage of the Tokyo Paralympic Games, including all the news, photos, videos, complete schedule and in-depth analysis of the Games.
