Union Budget 2021 would be the first budget since coronavirus pandemic hit Indian and global economy severely. The COVID menace put breaks on many economies across the world. Many of them even contracted. Indian economy was hit as well. It is indeed a challenge for Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to navigate through this complex situation. Pandemic times have resulted in business closures and job loss putting the common man in jeopardy. Banking sector needs a boost after couple big debacles last year. Although the Union government has already announced package for MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), the sector would welcome a hand of help.
Union Budget 2021 will be presented on February 1. Budget session of the Parliament will begin on February 2. Sitharaman will present Economic Survey 2020-21 on January 29.
This will be Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's third budget under National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.
One of the main features of Union Budget 2021 will be that it will be paperless.
The budget session is likely to be stormy as the Opposition is likely to corner government on the issue of farm laws and also the general state of the Indian economy.
BJP is upbeat about the Budget 2021. It said that the Union Budget will be a game-changer. Recent International Monetary Fund (IMF) report said that Indian economy will grow 11.5 per cent in the year 2021.
In light of agricultural reforms and recent agitation against the farm laws, it would be interesting to see what does the government announce for the agriculture sector. The farmer agitation and the subsequent violence at Red Fort on January 26 has brought issues in agricultural sector to the fore.
Automobile Sector will have high hopes from the budget this year. The Union government has already shown keenness to promote electric vehicle on Indian roads. Tesla's entry in the Indian market is proving to be a talking point. Tata Group has recently expressed willingness to enter the electric car market.
The uncertain sentiment in banking sector is still persisting after failing banks. It will be interesting to see what measures government takes to tackle Non Performing Assets. Coronavirus pandemic meant that there was a slump in lending by banks. Experts are even saying that government will set up a special 'bad bank' to buy bad assets from state-owned banks
This will be Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's third budget under National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.
Common man is concerned the most about taxes. What will happen this year? Will the tax slabs be changed? All eyes are on Union Budget 2021
