CSK vs KKR, IPL 2024, Match Highlights: Gaikwad stars in home win for CSK over KKR

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 67 as CSK beat Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets to register their third win this season. KKR suffered their first loss of IPL 2024. 

Despite Daryl Mitchell falling prey to Sunil Narine's flight, CSK is inching closer to a win over KKR. Captain Gaikwad and Shivam Dube are at the crease. 

CSK Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is nearing his fifty as the home side inch closer to their third win of the season. CSK 89 for one in 11 overs.

After a blistering start on a tricky track, CSK's Rachin Ravindra played one straight to deep long on, getting out on 15. Vaibhav Arora broke the opening stand. CSK 29/1 in 3.4 overs. 

An attritional innings from KKR comes to an end. They could never really get used to the slow and tacky nature of the pitch. Batters perished trying to swing across the line, instead of playing straight. With dew starting to settle in, CSK have the advantage.

Big-hitting Andre Russell departs! Good length ball bowled wide across from the batter. Russell fetches it but can only miscue it down to long on where Daryl Mitchell takes his second catch of the evening.  Russell c Mitchell b Tushar Deshpande 10(10)

An excellent over from Mustafizur who goes for nine runs and could have had Russell's wicket if Dhoni hadn't dropped a straightforward chance.

KKR in deep, deep trouble! Length ball bowled wide outside off. Rinku on the backfoot attempts to go over the cover region but the slow nature of the pitch means he gets a thick inside edge as the ball rattles into the stumps. 100 comes up for KKR in the 16th over. The two-time champions have struggled in the match so far and would require a powerful end to the innings to restore some of the parity.

Theekshana gets his revenge after being hit for a six on the previous ball. Bowls a carrom ball on middle and leg. Ramandeep makes some room for himself and tries to drive the ball on up but fails to get inside the line and sees the ball whistle past the bat and into the stumps. Ramandeep Singh b Theekshana 13(12)

Jadeja magic continues! Drags a short one outside off. Venkatesh Iyer on the backfoot attempts to slap it over the midwicket boundary but cannot get the elevation and holes out to Daryl Mitchell who takes a brilliant diving catch. KKR in deep waters here. Venkatesh Iyer c Mitchell b Jadeja 3(8)

Two in the over for Jadeja. Pushes the ball wide across from Narine who takes the bait and goes swinging at it. Gets the toe end of the bat and miscues it straight down to long off where the fielder did not have to move an inch to pouch that. Narine c Theekshana b Jadeja 27(20)

KKR: 60/3, 6.5 overs

Length ball bowled on middle and off. Raghuvanshi goes for a reverse sweep but misses the line completely and gets smacked on the front pad. CSK players appeal loudly and the umpire raises the dreaded finger. Raghuvanshi doesn't even bother going upstairs.

KKR have made a decent comeback after the poor start. Both Raghuvanshi and Narine have punished the poor balls from CSK bowlers and kept the scoreboard ticking. Most expensive powerplay overs for CSK at home this season.

Having lost Salt, KKR have started the rebuild job with Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Both batters have smacked few boundaries in the meantime but would need more to take full advantage of the powerplay overs.

So far, the matches held at Chepauk have been high-scoring and expect the same with many big-hitters in both the teams. Dew hasn't made any such impact but one can expect some changes to happen as this is the third game of the season at the iconic venue. 

In head-to-head, CSK lead KKR 18-10 in 29 games with one encounter ending without a result. Will CSK extend the overall margin or will KKR bridge the gap with one more win?

Notably, CSK have lost only 8 out of 34 games played in Chepauk since 2013. Will they add to their dominant home record this evening, against an unbeaten KKR?
