More than 50 militants were killed and dozens were injured in Afghanistan on Monday after aircrafts targeted Taliban positions in country's Faryab province.

A group of Taliban militants had earlier blocked a road to target military convoys.

The government forces retaliated and conducted an offensive attack killing about 54 militants and injuring several others.

Amongst those killed were two senior Taliban commanders -- Mullah Shah Wali and Mullah Qayum, Xinhua quoted the official as saying.
