Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat takes over as chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee

General Zubair Mahmood Hayat on Monday took over as the 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) of Pakistan from outgoing chairman General Rashad Mehmood during an official ceremony at the joint staff headquarters in Rawalpindi, the Dawn newspaper reported.

Gen Hayat was presented with a guard of honour at a ceremony attended by all chiefs of staff. Incoming army chief Gen Qamar Javad Bajwa was also present on the occasion, the Dawn further reported.

Before taking over as CJCSC, Gen Hayat was serving as Chief of General Staff (CGS).

The CJCSC is, in principle, the highest-ranking military officer in the Pakistan Defense Forces.
