At least nine students are dead and 37 people injured as four terrorists entered the hostel of the Agricultural Directorate in Peshawar, media reports said.
Three of the burqa clad terrorist have been killed and one with the suicide jacket has been neutrilised, Tribune reported.
According to reports a journalist and a watchman are among the injured and have been taken to Khyber Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack in message from Taliban spokesman Mohammad Khorasani that they had tageted a safe house of the military's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, Reported by Reuters.
University hotel is a resident of nearly 400 students but due to the holiday weekend about 120 students remained; out of which how many are still inside is unclear.
The attack began as firing broke out at the directorate early Friday morning when at least three burqa-clad suspects entered the building.
Peshwar police chief Tahir Khan said, the gunment arrived at the campus in an auto-rickshaw and disguised in the burqas worn by many women in the region.
Currently, the area is being surveyed by military helicopters. Army and Frontier Corps personnel are also at the site of the attack.
The road to Peshawar's University is closed to traffic due to the incident and rescue operation is underway.
The University was closed today as the country is celebrating Eid Miladun Nabi.
