Paris Olympics 2024, Day 13, Highlights: India clinch bronze in hockey; Aman Sehrawat ousted in semis

India's Aman Sehrawat will contest for a bronze medal after losing to Japanese wrestler on technical superiority. 

Indian men's hockey team beat Spain 2-1 to win the bronze medal at the Paris Olympic Games 2024. In the bronze medal match, Spain opened the scoring in the 2nd quarter before India came from behind and scored twice to take the lead. 

The men's hockey team won the bronze for the second time in two straight Summer Games, previously winning at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Meanwhile, it's India's fourth medal at the Paris Games 2024.

Per the latest report, the IOA has decided to punish and not ban wrestler Antim Panghal over her disciplinary violation at the Paris Olympics 2024. The formal announcement around the same will come shortly.

On the day when the Indian wrestlers made headlines for all wrong reasons, grappler Aman Sehrawat reached the semis in his weight category (57 Kg freestyle) at the Paris Olympics Games 2024. 

Aman beat Zelimkhan (12-0) in the quarter-final and will face the 1st seed, Rei Higuchi, in the semis at 9:45 PM IST today.

India's Aman Sehrawat is into the quarterfinals of the men's 57kg event after defeating North Macedonia's Vladimir Egorov 10:0 via technical superiority. 

India's Jyothi Yarraji is in action in the repechage of the women's 100-metre hurdles. On Wednesday, she finished seventh in her heats with a timing of 13.16 seconds. Overall, she ended 35th out of 40 runners. 

Meanwhile, India's Aman Sehrawat is also set to be in action in the Round of 16 of the men's 57kg freestyle event in wrestling. 

Dikdha Dagar moved to T4, jumping 3 places from her earlier position of T7, whereas Aditi Ashok, who made heads turn in Tokyo 2020, has dropped to T13.

Amid the Vinesh hearing and all the hype around javelin final and hockey's bronze medal match, let us also focus on other star athletes in action.

At 12:30 PM IST, India's Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will be in action in the women's individual strokeplay in golf. 

All eyes are firm on Vinesh's upcoming hearing, which will take place online on Thursday evening at 17:30 IST.

After what transpired on Wednesday (Aug 7), Vinesh Phogat shocked the entire country by announcing her retirement from wrestling on Thursday morning. Vinesh missed out on competing in the gold medal match of the women's 50kg freestyle wrestling game for being marginally overweight. This resulted in her not even winning silver. While she has filed an appeal to the CAS, with the decision pending, Vinesh stunned one and all by retiring from the sport.

On Day 13, the Indian athletes will once again be in action with the hope to add to India's medal tally (3). A lot of misfortunes have led to India's struggles at Paris 2024 despite competing well. The main focus, on Thursday, will be on javelin and hockey with medals up for grabs.
