Paris Olympics 2024 LIVE, Day 14: Men's relay team fail to qualify, Vinesh's fate to be out after event

A statement from CAS read, "An application was filed at the CAS Ad hoc Division at 16:45 CEST on 7 August 2024 by Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat the Applicant) in esclation to the decision taken by United World Wrestling (UWW) to replace her, because of one of her failed second weigh-in, before the gold medal match of the Women's Freestyle 50kg competition at the Olympic Games Paris 2004 that was to commence at 18:15 CEST the same day (the Challenged Decision)."

"The Applicant initially sought a decision from the CAS Ad hoc Division annulling the Challenged Decision and endering mother weigh-in before the final match as well as a declaration that she be declared eligible and qualified to participate in the final. However, she she did not request urgent measures The CAS Ad hoc Division procedure is fast, but it was not possible for a decision on the matter to be issued within an hour, bearing in mind that the Respondent UWW would have had to be heard first. The procedure is, however, ongoing and the applicant has confirmed that she challenged the decision and that she requests to be awarded a (shared) silver medal."

"The matter has been referred to the Hon. De Annabelle Bennett AC SC (AUS), sitting as a Sole Arbiranot, who will hold a hoaring with the parties today. The Sole Arbitrator's decision is expected to be issued before the end of the Olympic Games."

PR Sreejesh has been named as India's flag-bearer on Friday (Aug 9). He joins Manu Bhaker for the closing ceremony. Harmanpreet Singh-led India won the bronze medal match, on Thursday (Aug 8), beating Spain, which was Sreejesh's last international appearance.

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat's hearing at CAS has reportedly been pushed back to 2 pm local time (5:30 PM IST). ​​​​​​

India men's team ended fifth in the first round of the heat 2 competition with a timing of 3:00:58. The Indian team -- comprising Amol Jacob, Rajesh Ramesh, Santhosh Kumar, Muhammed Ajmal, Muhammed Anas -- fell flat and failed to qualify for the final of 4X400 metre relay. 

Indian women's relay team is set to take part in the Round 1 of the 4x400-metre event. Notably, 3 teams from each heat and the next 2 fastest will enter the final. 

South Korean Olympic silver medallist pistol shooter Kim Ye-ji, whose cool demeanour and appearance when competing at the Paris Games made her a social media sensation, collapsed at a news conference on Friday, apparently due to stress and exhaustion. Kim was speaking at the event in Imsil, the county that she represented for seven years in the southern part of South Korea, when she collapsed, a county official said by telephone. Kim regained consciousness and was taken to hospital, he said.

Reportedly, one of PR Sreejesh and Neeraj Chopra will be one of India's flagbearers in Paris Olympics 2024. Notably, Manu Bhaker has already been confirmed as a flagbearer after she won two medals in shooting in the ongoing edition.

India's Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar kickoff the day for the Indian contingent in the women's individual stroke-play in golf. 

Diksha, who was once at T4, is currently placed at T14. Moreover, Aditi Ashok is at T14 too.
