While speaking at an election rally in Behrampur city of Odisha, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the state has been facing poverty because of loot by the Congress and then Biju Janata Dal for more than seven decades. 

The prime minister made the statement while campaigning for the ruling BJP ahead of the state elections in Odisha which are being conducted alongside the general election.

Several vehicles, which were parked outside the office of Congress in the Amethi constituency of Uttar Pradesh, were found vandalised on Sunday (May 5). 

Although the police said that the incident is being investigated, the Congress held the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party responsible for the attack, in which reportedly some of the Congress workers also suffered injuries.

The Congress, taking to social media platform X, claimed that when the incident occurred, while “vehicles of local people were also damaged, the police administration remained a mute spectator”.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be leading the election campaign of Congress in Rae Bareli and Amethi constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.

Both these constituencies have been bastions of the Gandhi family till Rahul Gandhi was defeated by BJP's Smriti Irani in Amethi in last Lok Sabha elections. 

The Congress had announced Rahul Gandhi as a candidate from Rae Bareli constituency, which has been held by his mother Sonia Gandhi for the last two decades. Meanwhile, Gandhi family close aide Kishori Lal Sharma was pitched by the party for Amethi.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address two rallies Andhra Pradesh on Monday (May 6) along with NDA leaders TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief Pawan Kalyan.

Andhra Pradesh will be going into Lok Sabha as well as Assembly elections in one phase on May 13.

“The prime minister is expected to land at Rajamahendravaram airport around noon. He will address his first meeting here at 3:30 pm and then proceed to Anakapalli for the second meeting scheduled at 5:30 pm,” said a BJP leader.

The rallies of PM Modi have been named as “Prajagalam” (people’s voice) in the southern state.
