The state unit of the Congress party is confident of winning at least five constituencies in Assam in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha polls.

After a post-poll internal review in which reports from all district and block committees were taken, the Congress is hopeful of a good performance in the just-concluded polls.
On the other hand, BJP leaders are asserting that the party will win at least 12 out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam.

Congress leaders are hopeful of winning Nagaon, Karimganj, Dhubri, Guwahati and Jorhat Lok Sabha seats.

The state unit gave a report to the high command after the third phase of elections got over.

A few months ago, many MLAs and leaders left the Congress party and joined the BJP. So, the grand old party had to start from a scratch in the Lok Sabha polls.

At this juncture, if the Congress snatches victory in five seats defeating a formidable BJP, then the “dying” Opposition party will get oxygen before the 2026 Assembly elections in Assam.

According to a senior Congress leader, the party's victory in Nagaon, Karimganj and Dhubri will be relatively easy.

Earlier, Assam state Congress President Bhupen Borah told reporters, “Congress will anyway win in five Lok Sabha seats in the state. I have informed the Congress High Command in Delhi about this.”

Meanwhile, the BJP has rubbished the claims of the Congress party. Assam minister Jayanta Mallabaruah said, “We are set to win at least 12 out of the total 14 Lok Sabha seats and the figure may go up to 13 as well.”

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal swore on his kids that he will never ally with Congress. Now, this alliance has eroded his credibility... This alliance is not a big challenge as the public of Delhi will vote for development, PM Modi and 'Viksit Bharat' and give all seven seats to BJP," said Bansuri Swaraj while talking to ANI.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah drew a direct parallel between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the ruthless ruler from auteur Satyajit Ray's cult classic 'Hirak Rajar Deshe'.

Addressing a public meeting in the Hooghly district, ahead of the fifth phase of polling in Bengal, Shah said the legendary filmmaker would have helmed a sequel to 'Hiraj Rajar Deshe' titled 'Hirak Rani', if he were alive today.

The moniker 'Hirak Rani' has often been used by BJP heavyweight and the Leader of the Opposition in the Bengal assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, as he accused her of presiding over a loot of public money and central funds.

"Satyajit Ray, as we all know, was one of Bengal's proud sons and a globally renowned filmmaker. His iconic film 'Hirak Rajar Deshe' made waves globally and is still fondly watched and remembered. Sadly, Ray wasn't around when Mamata Banerjee came to power in Bengal as he would have made a sequel to 'Hirak Rajar Desh', titled 'Hirak Rani', seeing her misrule. Mamata Banerjee is the Hirak Rani," Shah said with a smirk.

In a press conference on Thursday, Sanjay Raut, Rajya Sabha MP and leader of Shivsena UBT took potshots at Prime Minister Modi and Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde.

The condemnation came after PM Narendra Modi's remarks of 'nakli' on Shivsena (UBT) in his rally on Wednesday.

Sanjay Raut, while addressing the media, alleged that those who had looted the Shiv Sena are now calling others thieves.

In response to allegations made by Prime Minister Modi, Sanjay Raut stated, "The thief himself is speaking, the one who has looted our party is speaking. PM Modi, the Home Minister, and the Election Commission assisted them (the Shivsena - Eknath Shinde faction) in validating the party. We are not fake; they are the supreme thieves; stating lies and running the country. This is why we need to change the government in India to safeguard the constitution."

"We have managed the party very well. The country will see on June 4th where Shivsena (UBT), NCP-SCP, and Congress stand and where the BJP actually is," he added.
Speaking about the speculations of Mamta Banerjee supporting the INDIA alliance from the outside, Sanjay Raut said, "Mamta is didi for everybody. Whether she is in the alliance or not, she is also fighting against the BJP, and we are all together in the effort. Her support is welcomed."

On Wednesday, PM Modi in his rally at Dindori, called Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena "nakli." The PM said that Congress is losing so badly that it is difficult for them even to become a valid opposition.

"Congress is losing so badly that it is difficult for them even to become a valid opposition. A leader of the INDI alliance in Maharashtra suggested that all the small parties in Maharashtra should merge with Congress after the elections. This fake Shiv Sena and fake Nationalist Party will certainly merge with Congress," he said.

"When this fake Shiv Sena merges with Congress, I will remember Bala Saheb Thackeray the most, because Bala Saheb also used to say that the day he felt that Shiv Sena has become Congress, that day he will end Shiv Sena, meaning that now there will be no trace of fake Shiv Sena," he added while addressing a public rally in Dindori.
