Just two weeks are left for the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in India to begin. The schedule of the general elections was announced last month. The first phase of polling is on April 19, the second phase is on April 26, the third phase is on May 7, the fourth phase is on May 13, the fifth phase is on May 20, the sixth phase is on May 25, and the seventh and final phase is on June 1. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.

In the latest news from the elections, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be holding rallies in Bengal's Cooch Behar constituency on Thursday (Apr 4). Banerjee's rally is set to begin at noon while Modi's rally will start around 3 pm, a report by the news agency ANI said.

In Odisha, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) announced the list of candidates for the Lok Sabha as well as the assembly elections. The BJD candidates for the five Lok Sabha seats are Surendra Singh Bhoi (from Balangir), Manjulata Mandal (from Bhadrak), Parineeta Mishra (from Bargarh), Bhrugu Baxipatra (from Berhampur), and Dhanurjay Siddu (from Keonjhar).
