JD(S) leader and former prime minister HD Deve Gowda’s son HD Kumaraswamy and KPCC president G Parameshwara is taking oath as Karnataka’s chief minister and deputy CM, respectively, in the presence of a galaxy of leaders today, as the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Congress are set to form the government in the state.
Parameshwara will be the first Dalit leader to occupy the post in Karnataka, partially fulfilling the demand for a CM from the community. Dalits form about 25% of the state population.
