JD(S) leader and former prime minister HD Deve Gowda’s son HD Kumaraswamy and KPCC president G Parameshwara is taking oath as Karnataka’s chief minister and deputy CM, respectively, in the presence of a galaxy of leaders today, as the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Congress are set to form the government in the state.

Parameshwara will be the first Dalit leader to occupy the post in Karnataka, partially fulfilling the demand for a CM from the community. Dalits form about 25% of the state population.

Senior Congress leader and president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, G Parameshwara, has sworn-in as the Deputy Chief Minister. The Congress-JD(S) government will have a total of 34 Ministers - 12 from the JD(S) and 22 from the Congress. The Cabinet Ministers will take oath after their names will be finalised.
