Misra had earlier met the senior judges a few days ago as well in a bid to quell differences over a number of issues raised by them on January 12th in an open press conference.

The meeting with the four judges lasted around 10-15 minutes before the resumption of court proceedings at 10:30 am.

The judges had alleged that sensitive and important cases were being assigned to "select benches" headed by junior judges in the last few months.

The judges had said the issues involving administration of the Supreme Court were serious enough to prompt them to go public.

Later, the judges had released a letter detailing cases of "far-reaching consequences for the nation and the institution" that were selectively assigned by the chief justice without rational "basis for such assignment".
