‘PM Narendra Modi’ biopic has been in the news ever since it was announced that a film on the current Indian PM was being made. From the trailer to its posters, everything has been under scrutiny.
Most recently, an issue also came up around the credits given to some Bollywood lyricists. Javed Akhtar called out on the makers of the film for including his name in the poster even though he has not written any song for the film. Javed wrote: “Am shocked to find my name on the poster of this film. Have not written any songs for it !”
The producer of the film, Sandip Ssingh then replied saying that they included an old song of Akhtar’s that was used in some other film and thus the credits. He wrote: “We have taken the songs Ishwar Allah from the film 1947: Earth and the song Suno Gaur Se Duniya Walon from the film Dus in our film, thus we have given the due credits to respective lyricists Javed Sahab and Sameer Ji. @TSeries is our Music partner.”
This, however, did not convince Akhtar as he told in an interview: “Firstly I don’t know who Sandip Ssingh is. Secondly, when you take an old song in your film you don’t give credit to the original person on your promotional material because I have not written anything for the film PM Narendra Modi. You can’t behave like I’m a part of your unit, as your songwriter.
Now, in the midst of a debate around the credits, another issue has come up and it's quite serious. When Sandip disclosed on social media that he would be rapping a track, NaMo NaMo, for the movie, social media users threw him back to the time when he had been accused of sexually assaulting a younger boy at a beach resort in Mauritius in March last year.
“Sandip Ssingh, producer of PM Modi’s biopic, accused of sexual assault against a minor boy in Mauritius. This is the reality of Bhakts,” wrote a Twitter user.
It was reported earlier last year that Sandip had allegedly assaulted a minor boy from Switzerland at a hotel in Mauritius in March. The event led to the father of the victim to raise a hue and cry with the hotel management.
Meanwhile, ‘PM Narendra Modi’ is slated to release on April 5.
