Bong Joon Ho will mark his long-awaited return to films after Oscar-winning film Parasite with Robert Pattinson starrer Mickey 17. Scheduled for release on January 31, 2025, the film has now been shifted to April 18, 2025 – three months later than earlier slated for.

The new changes have been made so that the film will be able to screen in IMAX and capitalise on the Easter holiday all over the world. 

This change also is a result of a change in the release date for Michael biopic. The upcoming biopic from director Antoine Fuqua was originally set for the April 18 slot, tying up IMAX and premium large-format screens. The film has now been pushed to October 3 by Lionsgate. 

Announcing the change in release date for Mickey 17, Warner Bros. spokesperson in a statement said, “When the April 18 date became available, we quickly moved to secure it for Mickey 17. We’re thrilled with the new date, and very happy the film will be available to audiences in IMAX."

Now that the January date is free, Warner Bros. and New Line’s Companion will release three weeks earlier for January 10. The Warner Bros. spokesperson said, “With January 31 now available with a full IMAX footprint, we are also very happy to have ‘Companion’ releasing on this new date.”

Mickey 17 release date gets changed again

This isn’t the first time Mickey 17 has been pushed back. The Robert Pattinson starrer was initially dated for March 29, 2024. The film was first shifted so that the project could finish. 

Mickey 17 Plot

Mickey 17 is based on the 2022 novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton. It is a sci-fi thriller which stars Pattinson as an “expendable” employee named Mickey Barnes. In the novel, Mickey is sent on dangerous missions to colonise an ice planet. When one version of Mickey dies, a duplicate is created to replace him that retains most of his memories.

The cast also includes Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo.
