Google Doodle celebrates Meena Kumari's 85th birth anniversary
Google is celebrating legendary Bollywood actress late Meena Kumari's 85th birthday today. Today's Google Doodle features Kumari's image who is often touted as the 'The Tragedy Queen'.
The doodle depicts Kumari in a red saree against the backdrop of a star-lit sky.
Born as Mahjabeen Bano on August 1, 1933 in Mumbai, Meena Kumari starred in about 92 films, including hits like 'Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam', 'Pakeezah', 'Mere Apne', 'Aarti', 'Baiju Bawra', 'Parineeta', 'Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai', 'Foot Path', 'Dil Ek Mandir' and 'Kaajal'.
She married filmmaker and screenwriter Kamal Amrohi in the year 1952.
Her career spanned over three decades and came to an end with her unfortunate demise due to liver cirrhosis in 1972 at the age of 38.
