Imtiaz Ali's Amar Singh Chamkila starring Diljit Dosanjh has garnered a lot of love from the audience and critics alike. The Netflix movie tells the story of Chamkila, one of the most famous Punjabi singers of all time.

The movie has brought the life of the singer to the limelight again. Amid this, singer Gippy Grewal has shared the time when he attended Chamkila's life performance. The singer added that all the Punjabi singers, including himself and Diljit, have sung Chamkila’s songs. The singer went on to add that even he has recorded a few of Chamkila’s songs.

In a recent interview with Film Companion, Gippy praised singer Amar Singh Chamkila as he recalled watching his live performance as a child.

“Leave Diljit aside, even the rest of the people, he looked for such great people.”

Talking further, the singer recalled attending Chamkila's live performance as he said that the singer introduced Swaran Sivia to the audience as he sang his first devotional song ''Baba Tera Nankana'' even before he recorded it. "He said I'll record it if you like the song". 

Hailing Imtiaz's realistic work, he said, "In the movie, the way they have shown the akhadas, that’s how they happened in real life too," he said.

In the movie, it is shown that Chamkila began singing devotional songs after he received threats for the vulgar lyrics of his songs.
