In a first, streaming platform Netflix beat HBO to gain the most number of Emmy nominations this year. The 2018 Emmy nominations list was announced on Thursday night by The Handmaid's Tale's Samira Wiley and New Amsterdam's Ryan Eggold along with Television Academy chairman-CEO Hayma Washington and president-COO Maury McIntyre.

While Netflix bagged 112 total nominations, HBO was limited to 108. It's the first time HBO hasn't led all nominees in 18 years.

Emmys in its 70th year this time will air on NBC for the first time since 2014 on September 17, from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. 

It is expected that Saturday Night Live's Colin Jost and Michael Che will host the night.
