Even as President Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital, Palestinian protesters clashed with Israeli forces in West Bank.
"Israel is a sovereign nation with the right like every other sovereign nation to determine its own capital," Trump said in a speech from the White House today.
"It is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel," the US president said.
Just hours later, protesters in Al-Bireh and Bethlehem threw stones at Israeli troops as clashes erupted.
Israeli troops retaliated by throwing teargas shells and used to water cannons to disrupt the protesters.
17 people were injured, a doctor told Reuters.
An Israeli spokeswoman said soldiers used "riot-dispersal gear against hundreds of rock-throwers".
