The United States has decided to curb military support and other aid programs to Cambodia owing to recent "democratic setbacks" faced by the country.
"Recent setbacks to democracy in Cambodia, however, caused us deep concern, including Senate elections on February 25 that failed to represent the genuine will of the Cambodian people," the White House said.
The official statement from the Trump administration noted that it was "suspending or curtailing" several programmes to Cambodia including USAID, military assistance and treasury aid among others due to the ongoing instability in the nation.
The aid cut is likely to affect Cambodia's military and taxation department among others. The White House will continue to extend its support to Cambodia's healthcare and agriculture.
