Fabio Jose Cavalcante e Sa, 39 years old, became the 100th police officer killed this year in the state Rio de Janeiro, Brazil when he was shot on Saturday (August 26).
Sa had just arrived at a store his parents own in a working class section outside the city of Rio de Janeiro when he was shot ten times by a group of men.

Violence is a chronic problem in the state of Rio de Janeiro and the first quarter of 2017 saw 3,457 violent deaths compared with 3,006 during the same period last year.
