Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is not fit to be the next US commander-in-chief, according to outgoing president Barack Obama.
The criticism comes a day after billionaire Trump said Russia President Vladimir Putin is a better leader than Obama.
"I don't think the guy's (Trump) qualified to be president of the United States, and every time he speaks, that opinion is confirmed," said Obama, who is currently in Laos to attend a summit with Southeast Asian leaders.
Obama also blasted Trump for being uninformed and having ''whacky ideas''.
Trump had previously said that if he came to power, he would ask the military brass to forge a plan within 30 days to destroy Islamic State in the Middle East.
Trump's promise was assailed by a retired army general. "I had to ask myself, what the hell does he think we've been trying to do for the last 14 years in terms of al Qaeda?" Retired Army Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling had told CNN.
Trump is contending with Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to become the next president of the United States. The election is on November 8.
