Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has pneumonia but is “recovering nicely”, her doctor said on Sunday after she abruptly left the 9/11 remembrance memorial in New York because she felt “overheated”.

Clinton had become “dehydrated”, her doctor said.

A video posted to social media showed Clinton standing rigidly while an aide held her arm at the ceremony from where she was helped into the van. The video came from an unverified Twitter account.

Physician Lisa Bardack, who examined the 68-year-old Clinton at her home in Chappaqua, New York, said,"Secretary Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies. On Friday, during follow-up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia.”

"She was put on antibiotics, and advised to rest and modify her schedule. While at this morning's event, she became overheated and dehydrated. I have just examined her and she is now re-hydrated and recovering nicely."
