The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said Thursday that economic and commercial ties between China and Iran will continue as normal despite a recent pullout by the United States from its nuclear pact with Tehran.

Washington's pullout could result in sanctioning of third parties.

Ministry spokesperson Gao Feng said at a press conference that China will continue to maintain economic and commercial ties with Iran, which he added would not violate Beijing's international obligations.

The spokesperson, responding to a question from the Iran National News Agency, added that the Chinese government was always opposed to unilateral measures by any party against others.

He also underlined that between January and April 2018, bilateral trade between China and Iran witnessed a 9.3 percent growth year on year, with exchanges to the tune of $13.21 billion.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani visited China earlier this month to attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, where Iran is an observer nation.
