Britain, India issue travel advisories, US expresses condolences

Britain's Foreign Office issued an alert warning British citizens in the German city of Munich to follow the instructions of the authorities, after police there reported many people had been killed in a shooting at a shopping centre.

"There are reports of an incident at the Munich Olympia Shopping Centre. You are advised to avoid this location and follow the advice of local authorities," the Foreign Office said in updated travel advice on Germany.
Britain's Foreign Office said it was "urgently investigating" the shootings in Munich.

"We are urgently investigating an incident in Munich and stand ready to provide assistance to British Nationals," the Foreign Office said in a statement.

The US State Department too expressed condolences for victims and said it was "following the situation closely."

"Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. We're following the situation closely here at the department and we are working with local authorities to determine if any U.S. citizens have been impacted," State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau said.

The Indian government has issues a travel advisory to Munich.

Munich police said gunmen went on a shooting rampage in a shopping centre, killing and wounding many people. The police also reported eyewitness accounts of shooting in two other areas of Munich.
