American swimmer Ryan Lochte has been suspended for 10 months following a scandal at Rio during the Olympic Games 2016 last month.

The US Olympic Committee handed the suspension to Lochte and three other US Olympic swimmers today, US media reported. The three would be suspended for shorter durations.

Lochte, 32, had allegedly “exaggerated” a story about being robbed and held at gunpoint after a party at Rio.

Brazilian authorities had on their part said that the four swimmers had destroyed public property and demanded that Lochte be charged for false reporting of crime.

The suspension would mean Lochte missing the 2017 swim meet in Budapest.
