Wimbledon women's semifinal: Williams vs Konta, Rybarikova vs Muguruza

The Wimbledon tennis tournament started on 25th June and after 128 women battled each other for sixteen days, the tournament has reached the final stage- the semis. Following some breathtaking face-offs and thrilling matches, the final four women tennis players have entered the Wimbledon semi-finals. 

The top 4 names include—Venus Williams, Johanna Konta, Magdalena Rybarikova and Garbiñe Muguruza.

Venus Williams

Five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams entered the semis by defeating French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko in straight set 6-3, 7-5. The match also marked her 86th win at Wimbledon in her 100th game.

Venus won her first Wimbledon title in 2001 with her sister Serena Williams in Women's Doubles. Ever since then she has played in nine semi-finals at Wimbledon and won five finals.

Venus will now face British player Johanna Konta in her semi-final match on Thursday.

Johanna Konta beat Simona Halep in the quarter-final match to become the first British ladies' semi-finalist at Wimbledon after Virginia Wade in 1977. It will be interesting to watch whether Britain will have another women's singles champion after a 40-year long wait. 

Konta, just 26, is set to take on 37-year-old Venus Williams in the semis.

Magdalena Rybarikova

Magdalena Rybarikova reserved her semi-final spot after beating Coco Vandeweghe in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. The 28-year-old Slovak will play her first Grand Slam semi-final against Garbiñe Muguruza.

Garbine Muguruza

Garbine Muguruza beat Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 6-4 to reach the last four. Garbine Muguruza played her first Wimbledon final in 2015 but lost to Serena Williams.
