Lewis Hamilton won pole position beating his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg for the Mexican Grand Prix on Saturday.

The three-time champion said he performed best during his worst session of the weekend.

“On long runs we were really strong and practice was really good,” AFP quoted Hamilton saying.

“So strangely Q3 was actually my worst session of the whole weekend so far," he added.

This is Hamilton's 59th career pole and 10th of the season with his best being 1 minute 18.704 seconds.

If Hamilton fails to finish in the top nine on Sunday, Rosberg who has a 26-point lead will win the title.

"Lewis's lap was brilliant, not so much mine but I put it together when it counted in the end," Rosberg said.
