ICC suspends Sri Lanka skipper Chandimal, coach and manager for four ODIs, two Tests
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday suspended Sri Lanka Cricket captain Dinesh Chandimal, coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and manager Asanka Gurusinha for the first four ODIs along with both the Tests against South Africa.
Charged by the ICC Chief Executive David Richardson on June 19, the trio had pleaded guilty to breaching Level 3, Article 2.3.1, which relates to “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”, during last month’s St. Lucia Test against the West Indies.
Earlier, ICC Code of Conduct Commission chairman had held a hearing over video conference on Wednesday to determine the sanction, and, after more than six hours of the hearing, they had reserved his decision.
The sanction relates to an incident where the 28-year-old Lankan skipper was caught changing the condition of the ball during the second day's play of the second Test against West Indies.
He was seen applying saliva containing the residue of something he had in his mouth to the ball during the game.
