Voting begins in sixth phase of Uttar Pradesh elections

The sixth phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh just got underway across forty-nine constituencies in seven districts in eastern UP.
The districts going to polls today are Mau, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Azamgarh and Ballia. Polling was brisk in the morning with 11 per cent voting recorded till 9am.
Several big guns are in the fray today including Mukhtar Ansari and his son Abbas who are contesting on a BSP ticket this time. Gorakhpur BJP MP Yogi Adityanath influence is set to tested in Gorakhpur. Gorakhpur city has as many as 127 candidates in the fray for nine seats.
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party will be contesting in 40 constituencies in the sixth phase with alliance partner Congress slugging it out in the rest of the nine constituencies. BJP is contesting 45 seats and its ally Apna Dal is fighting for one seat.
