UP assembly elections: 39% polling reported till 1 pm as voting underway in fourth phase

The fourth phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections for 53 constituencies spanning 12 districts is underway.

The voter turnout till 1 pm was 39 per cent, according to ANI.

The economically backward and water-scarce region of Bundelkhand will be voting in this phase of elections as well. 

Other districts, where polling is going on amid tight security are Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Allahabad, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Mahoba, Banda, Hamirpur, Chitrakoot and Fatehpur.

Security had been beefed up across inter-district and inter-state borders in view of the polls.

A total of 680 candidates are in the fray with many heavyweights like Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, who is contesting from his traditional Kunda constituency in Pratapgarh district. 

Aditi Singh of the Congress is contesting from the Rae Bareli constituency whereas Utkarsh Maurya, son of BSP turncoat Swami Prasad Maurya, is fighting from Unchahar constituency. 

Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh assembly, Gaya Charan Dinkar, is contesting from Naraini in Banda.

Senior SP leader Reoti Raman Singh's son Ujjwal Raman Singh is in the race from Karchana seat in Allahabad.

A total of 1.84 crore voters will exercise their franchise in this phase of elections.
