In an embarrassment for the Modi government, a picture of Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh urinating in public has kicked up a storm on social media.

In the photographs, Radha Mohan Singh can be spotted urinating outside what seems to be a building while his security guards stand nearby. The incident took place in Bihar's Motihari, headquarters of the East Champari district.

Radha Mohan Singh defended himself, stating there was no urinal for long distances on National Highway 28 near Pipara when he wanted to relieve himself. He said the photographs were of a dhaba (roadside eating outlet).

State BJP spokesperson Rajib Ranjan told a media outlet there was nothing wrong in the minister’s act since there was no other option if one was travelling long distances and there were no urinals nearby.

Several Twitter users, including Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, retweeted the image, remarking that the picture indicates the federal government is not serious about PM Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

They have also pointed out that the minister seems to be using a red beacon vehicle despite the fact that the Modi government had banned red beacons atop cars for all ministers, politicians and bureaucrats with effect from May 1.
